According to history, Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Monastery originated in 1293 when King Tran Nhan Tong founded Ky Lan Institute. Here, the three patriarchs of the Truc Lam Zen sect, Tran Nhan Tong, Phap Loa, and Huyen Quang, often disseminated Buddhist teachings, guided practitioners, and lectured on dharma. The Truc Lam Zen sect carries a purely Vietnamese spirit, reflecting national identity after the great victories of the Tran dynasty.

In the central chamber of the Dai Hung Bao Dien is enshrined the largest bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha on Yen Tu mountain, weighing approximately 4 tons. The image of the Buddha in a posture holding a newly blooming lotus symbolizes enlightenment, purity, and complete wisdom, creating a sacred focal point amidst the tranquil Zen space. On either side are statues of Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and Bodhisattva Manjushri with serene and balanced expressions, fully embodying the spirit of compassion and wisdom in Buddhism.
