Previously, on December 22, 2025, the Immigration Department - Ministry of Public Security issued Decision No. 12045/QD-QLXNC approving the Phu Quoc International Airport Aviation Security Program.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also issued the Airport Operating Certificate No. 6645/GCNKT-CHK dated December 25, 2025, for the Phu Quoc International Airport Branch - Sun Group's Sun Airport Joint Stock Company.
According to the Airport Business License, the Aviation Security Program Approval Decision, and the Airport Operating Certificate, from 00:00 on January 1, 2026, the Phu Quoc International Airport Branch - Sun Group's Sun Airport Joint Stock Company (SAC) will become the new Airport Operator, authorized to conduct business and operate Phu Quoc International Airport. Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project
The aforementioned legal documents were issued based on legal grounds related to the management and operation of airports; decisions on the recovery and transfer of aviation infrastructure assets and the handover of assets in their current state to the receiving enterprise for operation. This is an important step in the roadmap to complete the new operating model for Phu Quoc International Airport – a strategic gateway infrastructure of Pearl Island.
In early August 2025, the People's Committee of An Giang province issued a Decision to lease land to Sun Sky Airport Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Sun Group, for the Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project with an area of over 800 hectares, meeting ICAO 4E standards, with the goal of increasing phase 1 capacity to 20 million passengers per year. The Phu Quoc International Airport Expansion Project is one of five projects that are on or ahead of schedule among the total 21 priority projects being prepared for APEC 2027.

VIP lounge perspective. Phu Quoc airport infrastructure ready to serve APEC 2027
Sun Group Airport Corporation has, along with relevant authorities, urgently implemented key projects, including runway number 2, international terminal T2, VIP lounge, apron expansion, and supporting infrastructure systems, as per the Government's directive during the working session on November 14, 2025.
The international airport is managed, operated, and exploited directly by a private enterprise. This model is expected to leverage proactivity and flexibility in operations, enhance investment efficiency, service quality, and the ability to meet the rapid growth demands of an international tourist destination like Phu Quoc.
Amidst the growing number of visitors to Phu Quoc, the airport frequently experiences overload, a new operating model will help Phu Quoc International Airport not only ensure stability, maintain absolute security and safety, but also improve customer experience to meet international 5-star standards.
This also creates an important foundation for the Airport to be ready to meet future passenger growth demands and Phu Quoc being selected as the destination for APEC 2027 , while also being oriented for development into an international coastal city, a competitive regional tourism and service center.
