According to the Cheapest Destinations 2026 report by Skyscanner, Phu Quoc is the only Vietnamese destination to appear among the world’s most affordable places for round-trip economy airfare in 2026. The report is based on actual flight search and booking data collected throughout 2025 for travel in 2026, drawing on millions of monthly users of Skyscanner, one of the world’s largest online flight booking platforms. Phu Quoc’s position alongside well-known beach destinations such as Phuket, Manila, and Denpasar indicates that the island is no longer competing solely within Asia, but has entered the global arena in terms of air accessibility.

If affordability signals how easy Phu Quoc is to reach, Skyscanner’s Trending Destinations 2026 report highlights the island’s growing appeal on the global tourism map. In this ranking, Phu Quoc placed second among the world’s most trending destinations, recording a 184 percent year-on-year increase in flight searches. Skyscanner describes the island as an ideal choice for tranquil getaways, known for its lush natural landscapes, clear waters, and “stunning” beaches such as Kem Beach and Sao Beach.
This growth is not coincidental. It reflects the combined impact of open policies and steadily improving transport infrastructure. Phu Quoc is currently the only destination in Vietnam offering a 30-day visa-free stay for international visitors, while continuously expanding its air connectivity. The market entry of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, the airline bearing the island’s name, with a strategy focused on international routes and direct links to key source markets, is expected to further strengthen competitiveness and lay the foundation for long-term tourism growth.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways is expected to launch multiple new routes in 2026.
Tourism performance in 2025 already demonstrated a solid base for this trajectory. Phu Quoc welcomed approximately 8.3 million visitors, exceeding its annual target by more than 18 percent. International arrivals reached nearly 1.9 million, almost double the figure recorded in the previous year. This momentum has continued into early 2026, as Phu Quoc International Airport has repeatedly set new records for international flights, with an estimated increase of around 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
Behind these impressive figures, however, lies more than improved accessibility or a rising number of flights. The key factor attracting international travelers is Phu Quoc’s increasingly complete experience ecosystem, offering a seamless journey from day to night. The island is no longer defined solely by pristine nature, but is being positioned as a destination for distinctive, one-of-a-kind experiences.

The world’s longest three-wire cable car to Hon Thom Island is a signature experience not to be missed in Phu Quoc.
Visitors can ride the world’s longest three-wire cable car to Hon Thom Island, enjoying panoramic views of the An Thoi archipelago before immersing themselves in entertainment at Sun World Hon Thom, home to Aquatopia Water Park, Exotica Village, and large-scale adventure attractions. As evening falls, Sunset Town becomes the focal point with the Kiss Bridge, the world’s only “non-touching” bridge praised by CNN, alongside major multimedia shows such as Kiss of the Sea, a Guinness World Record-holding production, and Symphony of the Sea. Phu Quoc is also the only island in the world to host nightly fireworks for nearly two consecutive years, transforming the Pearl Island into a destination that never sleeps, where every night feels like New Year’s Eve.

Fireworks have become a defining symbol of the island, with Phu Quoc’s skies illuminated for 750 consecutive nights.
Phu Quoc’s repeated presence in Skyscanner’s authoritative rankings suggests that the island is not merely benefiting from short-term trends, but is building a sustainable competitive advantage based on affordable access and an increasingly comprehensive experience ecosystem. As airfares become the gateway that draws global travelers, and experiences become the reason they return, Phu Quoc is steadily positioning itself as one of the world’s most noteworthy beach destinations in 2026.
