3.3. Nam Hai Than Vuong Temple and spiritual significance

Nam Hai Than Vuong Temple is located on a high hill of the island, built in traditional architecture with curved tiled roofs and intricately carved dragon pavilions. According to local legend, Nam Hai Than Vuong is the deity who protects the sea gate, shielding fishermen going out to sea.

The temple festival takes place on the 10th day of the second lunar month, welcoming large crowds from Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and surrounding areas. Activities such as palanquin processions, dragon dances, and Chau Van singing are conducted solemnly and vibrantly.

The temple is divided into three sections: the front hall for receiving guests, the middle hall for worshipping secondary deities, and the inner sanctuary housing the statue of Nam Hai Than Vuong. All statues are crafted from precious wood with elaborate details by the hands of artisans.

When visiting the temple, prepare offerings such as flowers, fruits, candles, and incense. Attire should be neat, maintain a quiet atmosphere, and photography should only be done at designated spots to show respect.
