Like "giant granaries" on high mountain slopes, Sapa terraced fields are among the most magnificent natural and labor masterpieces of the Northwest mountains. During the water-pouring season, the terraced fields shimmer like mirrors of the sky; when the rice sprouts, they are golden like a yellow carpet draped across the mountainside.

These terraced fields were by the H'Mong, Day, and Dao ethnic groups skillfully created hundreds of years ago to cultivate rice on steep mountain slopes. Each terrace is not only a work of labor, but also a cultural imprint, a symbol of human wisdom and connection with the highland nature.

Today, the terraced fields are mainly spread across communes like Ta Van, Ta Phin, Lao Chai, Ban Ho... They are an indispensable destination in any Sapa exploration journey. In 2013, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized Sapa terraced fields as a National Landscape Relic, with a total area of over 749 hectares.

Not only loved by domestic tourists, Sapa terraced fields have also been praised many times by international media. The renowned travel magazine Travel and Leisure (USA) once ranked Sapa among the 7 most beautiful and magnificent terraced fields in Asia and the world.
